Candidates applying for UPSC ESE 2027 must fulfill the following age requirements as on 1st January 2027:
- Minimum Age: 21 Years
- Maximum Age: 30 Years (Candidate must have been born between 2nd January 1997 and 1st January 2006)
Upper age limit is relaxable up to 35 years for Central Government Servants, up to 5 years for SC/ST, up to 3 years for OBC, up to 10 years for PwBD, and as per rules for Ex-Servicemen.
The UPSC Engineering Services Examination (ESE) 2027 provides a prestigious gateway to Group-A and Group-B cadre services in technical departments under the Government of India. Selected candidates will be appointed to prestigious cadres such as Indian Railway Management Service (IRMS), Indian Defence Service of Engineers (IDSE), Central Engineering Service, Central Water Engineering, Border Roads Engineering Service (BRES), and Indian Telecommunications Service. Candidates must follow these steps to register and complete the online application process on the official UPSC portal:
- Visit the official UPSC portal at upsconline.nic.in.
- Complete the One-Time Registration (OTR) module if you have not registered previously.
- Log in using your OTR credentials and access the Engineering Services Examination 2027 application form.
- Fill in your educational qualifications, personal details, and select your preferred examination center.
- Upload scanned copies of your photograph and signature (file size between 20 KB and 300 KB in JPEG format) along with a live photo capture as required.
- Pay the application fee of ₹200 online (if applicable) and submit the application form before 06 October 2026 (06:00 PM). Print a copy of the submitted application form for future reference.
The Engineering Services Examination 2027 recruitment comprises a three-stage competitive examination: Stage-I Preliminary Examination (Objective Type - 500 Marks), Stage-II Main Examination (Conventional Written Type - 600 Marks), and Stage-III Personality Test / Interview (200 Marks). Candidates who qualify Stage-I will be called for Stage-II, and those clearing Stage-II will proceed to the Personality Test. Final merit ranking will be based on the total marks obtained across all three stages.
Stage-I Preliminary Exam consists of Paper-I (General Studies & Engineering Aptitude, 2 hours, 200 Marks) and Paper-II (Discipline Specific Paper, 3 hours, 300 Marks). Objective papers carry negative marking of 1/3rd (0.33) marks for incorrect answers. Stage-II Main Exam comprises two conventional engineering papers of 3 hours each, carrying 300 Marks each (Total 600 Marks). Stage-III Personality Test carries 200 Marks with no minimum qualifying threshold.
